The habit of being well organized is not something we're born with, but it’s surely something we can learn if we adopt the right behaviors and tools. 1. Always make sure to assign a specific place to each thing. It’s very challenging to start working with a productive state of mind if it is difficult to find the things we need to achieve the results we want. When we spend a lot of time looking for the things we need to start something, we lose valuable and productive time and we also lose our concentration and focus. Maintaining a well-organized life and a neat working environment involves keeping everything in its place so we can work effectively and without delays.
Essentially, this is a very easy habit to acquire if we start classifying each thing by assigning every item we need for our work a physical space or by saving everything into labeled computer files. We can assign a physical space to everything we need by creating labels or by categorizing each document or "file" with a specific labeled folder on our computer. It seems obvious and logical but the fact is that many people lose valuable and productive time by assuming that they will magically find everything they are looking for.
The truth is that assigning a physical location to each element depends entirely on our disciplined planning. When we do not adopt an organization system, things usually tend to accumulate and mix with each other thus creating a mountain of confusion that discourages our productivity and discourages our will to advance on our goals.
A mistake that we must not fall into is assigning storage locations with unspecific labels such as "various items" or “miscellaneous”. We must be precise and classify the things that are interrelated by assigning specific places and labels. We can use guides with numbers and even colors in order to make it visually easier for us to find everything in its place. The main principle is to always keep the things we use most on hand and in sight in order to advance with our daily work. Acquiring this habit will certainly keep us more productive and more organized.
2. Get used to maintaining schedules and set deadlines for everything you do and for everything else that you work on. Working without deadlines is working without the sense of urgency and this type of unmotivated work encourages messiness. People who practice the good habit of being well organized never lose valuable time wondering what project or idea they should be working on next because they have a specific agenda with deadlines for everything and every project they work on.
Much of the effectiveness of those who achieve success with their lifetime goals depends on their organization skills and the ability to maintain timetables and set deadlines.
Achieving success does not happen by mere chance or destiny; it happens by being disciplined and by carefully planning. We must acknowledge that acquiring this habit will make us more committed and responsible beings and this will help us achieve the results we want.

3. Do not put off until tomorrow what you can organize today. It seems obvious, but people not always understand the importance of organizing promptly what needs to be organized. The apparent effort it takes us to organize what needs our attention today is nothing compared to the even greater effort we will need to organize the clutter and mountain of chaos that accumulates if we leave everything for later. When we are confronted with a mountain of mental disorganization and chaos, this immediately lowers our motivation and productivity. The longer we wait to take action on this matter the more effort it will require from us to put everything in order and into place. One of the best practices of maintaining the habit of organization is always devoting some time during the day to allocate everything in its place. Start now and make a list of the things that need to be organized by assigning each item, tool or working paper a specific place.
4. Don’t rely on your memory to remember everything you need to do. We must acquire the habit of writing things down. When we write a to-do list it is easier to maintain a specific order and a sequence that will ultimately lead us to getting the results we're looking for.
Our memory is not always reliable, we tend to forget where we left things and we tend to forget what needs to be done. By writing things down, we create a sense of organization and responsibility. Similarly, it is important to write down our immediate goals as well as our long-term goals, this also gives us a sense of order and direction, it provides clarity and focus so we know in which way to direct our productive energy and attention.

Keep a written record of the things you need to buy when you are grocery shopping or when you are purchasing supplies, also write down important dates and things to do, this simple practice will eventually help us maintain the habit of organization and productivity.
5. Don’t store or accumulate what you don’t need. The more you accumulate the greater the chances of chaos and confusion. Adopt a simple way of life and a minimalist behavior and try to only use what is essential. This habit helps us relieve our workplace and this helps us have mental clarity.
By keeping only what is essential we can also appreciate what is really important to advance on our work and use that more efficiently without inefficiency or chaos.

6. Get rid of what you don’t regularly use. The less you accumulate the greater the degree of organization you will obtain.
Today there are countless websites to sell or even give or donate those things that we tend to accumulate and that only represent a load of clutter that take a toll on our concentration and our productivity. Make use of these sites to get rid of what you no longer need or just donate them or simply eliminate all the clutter by throwing it to the garbage.
7. Don’t buy things that you don’t need. We live in a consumerist society where it seems that we need to buy everything we see without thinking about what it costs to store and maintain that “garbage consumption” in an orderly matter. Buying things that we don’t need is simply accumulating a series of objects and wasting money. No matter how attractive that last fashion item for sale may seem we must first think if we really need that thing or if it’s better to save the money and the space in our workplace or in our house. It is very easy to fall into the trap of consumerism with those extremely attractive sales and offers that just make us accumulate more and more stuff.
8. Always write down the three most important things to do each day and do them! This habit goes hand in hand with the BEST PRACTICES TO INCREASE PRODUCTIVITY. Do not limit yourself to just writing down what you need to do, execute those tasks and take action! Action is a good friend of organization and a good friend of good results.
9. Keep a specific order as you advance with your daily work. This is a proactive habit in which we should not wait to accumulate stuff and generate chaos but instead in which we organize everything as we go. In our daily work and practice, this means classifying, sorting and accommodating everything we use and complete once we finished an activity. It also means to get rid of what we no longer will use when we buy something new, get rid of the old and give a specific place to the new.
10. Allocate some time to maintain order. This means that we should adopt the habit of spending a few hours of our time to advance with routine tasks like cleaning and washing the clothes we use. We can dedicate a block of time a day of the week to advance in these types of tasks.
11. Learn to delegate. Get into the habit of relying on the work of other people to free up some of your time in critical areas of your daily work. When we learn to delegate it makes it easier for us to maintain order while we focus all our creative energy in advancing on more productive tasks that can move us forward with our goals and projects.
